The Iraqi coastal radio network provides GMDSS coverage in Sea areas A1 and A2.
Being remote-controlled from the main control center at Al Maqal in the Basra region, the network consists of 5 radio sites with a total of 27 VHF transceivers, 2 MF/HF transceivers and 3 MF/HF receivers.
The network offers simplex and duplex communication on VHF, including continuous watch on VHF ch16 and DSC ch70. The MF/HF section provides continuous watch on the 2, 4 and 6 MHz distress channels.
